That idea shapes the toy, because the seed-stitch shell lifts off and goes back on whenever the hedgehog needs cover. Children love that hiding game, and it gives the finished piece a little story of its own. Everything is worked in one seamless piece in the round, so there are no body seams to sew at the end. Limbs take shape as you knit the body, and the knotted nose is made separately before it goes on. Facial details are embroidered, keeping the face soft and friendly.
