Autumn Orchard is a cabled afghan block scattered with fall leaves and a few late apples. Cable panels twist across the block like bare branches, while small leaf and fruit motifs settle between them. The result has real depth, and the raised stitches catch light like a textured quilt square. The block is worked flat from the bottom up, with written instructions and a cable chart so you can follow whichever you prefer. One square stands nicely on its own as a cushion front, or you can knit a stack and join them into a modular throw. Cables and chart reading come into play here, so Autumn Orchard rewards adventurous knitters rather than absolute beginners. Thank Lynette Meek for sharing this free knitting pattern.
